“Imagine Me; a Skin You Wearβ interlaces the historical art of tanning animal skin with the dynamic spirit of modern queer fashion, forging an intimate connection between fabric and flesh.
By employing unconventional mediums such as latex, garments, metal and audio, the installation embarks on an immersive exploration of the delicate interplay between cultural exchange, exploitation, and personal experiences of navigating between the soft and the brutal use of queer culture. Questioning how queer appropriation can perpetuate a cycle of commodification and distortion of marginalized group.
“Imagine Me; a Skin You Wear” invited individuals to participate with their clothes and narratives to offers a space for dialogue, contemplation, and the collective effort to dismantle exploitative systems while fostering a greater understanding of the nuanced issues surrounding cultural appropriation of queer community, as opposed to the mainstreamed portrayal of skin-deep solidarity.
